Men vs. Women

So I've always known that my husband and I are different. Honestly, it's what makes "us" work...most of the time. However, it's usually these differences that drive us nuts too!

When I want him to do something, I always usually mean RIGHT THEN, not whenever he feels like it remembers.

I was talking with a good friend of mine about these differences when she shared with me and enlightening and hilarious video she found on You Tube.

It's part of a marriage relationship seminar by pastor Mark Gungor. To read more about him follow this link.

No doubt women and men are different. We think different, we prioritize differently, we act differently! DUH! But this clip just puts a new perspective on it. He does a great job explaining it while adding a little bit of comedy in with it (the truth is always easier to take when dosed up with laughter, don't you think).

As for my husband, he confirms Mr. Gungor's revelation of the "nothingbox." And I get it. I don't necessarily like it, but I get it!

It's these differences, if we can learn to understand them and accept them, that will bring us closer together in our most important relationships.

It's 2012

Wow!  It's 2012 already?!  Where have I been?

To say 2011 was a rough year would be an understatement.  There was sickness and heart break and tears...lots of tears!  But it's over, and 2012 can only get better!!

So far, it has.  The kids are back to school (as am I) and the hubby is working.  Though his work is only part-time right now, I am hopeful that this year he will find a job he LOVES!

I don't typically set "resolutions."  In my experience resolutions only get broken, so instead I focus on goals.  Here are a few of my goals for 2012.

1. Build stronger relationships.  I want to focus on being a better wife to my husband.  My goal is for us to connect more with regular (at least once a month) dates.  Even stay-at-home dates work for me.  As long as the focus of this time is US and not the children or household.  I also want to build better relationships with my children.  My boys are growing...FAST!!!  My "baby" will be 4 this month...WHOA!!  I want to really get to know my boys.  Their "favorites" change daily and I want to be the FIRST one to know when it does!!  My goal is to have a once a month one-on-one kid-date with the boys.  We'll have to rotate month's though.  I don't think 4 nights out a month is feasible (budget or time-wise!)

2. Build a stronger relationship with God. This past year was tough, but I am so grateful for the gospel in my life.  If it wasn't for prayer and my faith in Jesus Christ, I am SURE I wouldn't be where I am now. I have accessed more POWER and STRENGTH through prayer than I ever thought was possible. I want to nurture my faith by bearing my testimony more often with my family and with my friends.  It's awful to me when I have good friends who say "I didn't know you were Mormon."  That is one way to really make me sad. Yes, I am a Mormon, and I am so HAPPY I am!!! (You can read more about Mormons here)

3. Be happy. This one is going to be hard.  Life is tough!  We all know it, but even in tough times, we CAN BE happy.  I want to relish in the little things, like my children's laughter, rain on a sunny day (one of my favorite things EVER!), and time spent with great friends.

4. Be healthy. This one is tough for me.  2011 was very hard in terms of health.  Luckily for the past few months I have been relatively healthy. My goal for 2012 is to eat well balanced meals and to consistently take my medications as prescribed. I would also like to start exercising.  Maybe running (more like walking) or going to the gym a couple of times a week. I have always been a HORRIBLE exerciser (with a CAPITAL H!!!).  But I'm going to give it a shot.

So that's it!  I try not to be overly ambitious.  I would also like to blog a bit more frequently, at least once a week. We'll see how it goes.

I like ending with a picture. This one is my family at church on Christmas. Gosh, I love those boys!!
